On the road to self worth, Barbara Rose's book is nothing short of eloquent wisdom. Each area of self worth is covered along with the fears and false beliefs that have limited us along the way. Each one is uncovered through the self questions we are given to unravel what has held us back in the past and how to turn it around. Her care and sharing from her own experiences shows that it can all be turned around! There is real depth and wisdom in this book. But more than anything, there is hope, because as she shares in the book, "if I can turn it around, you can too." This is an exceptionally helpful 'can't put down' book that's now at the top of my list. There's a lot more good inside of us than we may know how to feel and acknowledge. This great book shows us how.
As usual, this book is loving and empowering for real transformation.

PREFACE
How can you be in your body, live your life, and yet not know yourself?
I noticed this lack of knowledge in many women who consulted me from different countries around the world, and I discovered that nearly all of them did not know their life purpose. Neither did they know what they loved. They didn’t have a sense of who they were. Do you?
Do you know your life purpose, or what you are here on this earth to do?
Do you know what you love or require in order to live your life passionately?
Do you know your preferences regarding sex? Do you know why you wanted a certain relationship?
I wrote this book for women because women today are taking an unprecedented leap in consciousness as well as with respect to their roles in society.
And yet many who are in a place of so-called status still do not truly know themselves.
This journey to know yourself must begin at the beginning of your life. As we travel this path together we will uncover who you really are, why you have not known yourself, and how you can reclaim that vibrant child you once wereâ€"before you forgot who you are.
This book is dedicated to you. To your divine feminine and masculine attributes, integrated into wholeness. I share much of myself in the following pages, because we all can learn from the depths each of our sisters has reached, and rise by virtue of our painful lessonsâ€"together.
Now it is time to know yourself.
Barbara Rose, Ph.D.
PARTIAL Chapter Excerpt - Chapter 1 Birth to Age Eight
From the moment you were born, you were whole and complete.
You had every attribute you carry today. You had every talent that you know about, and perhaps some that you are not yet aware of.
Your personality was within, awaiting expression as you grew and learned how to express yourself. Not a single part of you was “less than†any part of another human being, even if you were born with physical challenges. Each person has challenges, some are just more apparent to the eye than others.
You began your life with a cry. How often have you cried? Many times, just as I have.
Your tears and the sound of your cry let you know what you had: a voice. At birth you had enough power in your voice to bring smiles to everyone who heard your cry, because they knew it meant you were alive. How differently we look at crying today.
This chapter will take you back to all you innately knew yourself to be as a baby, and have since forgotten. You had caregivers. Some may have been nurturing and gentle, and some may have been harsh and judgmental.
During your early years, you learned from the adults around you which of your characteristics to display and which to cover up. From their responses, you learned how to behave. You took on their beliefs about what was good and bad, acceptable and unacceptable. In your adult life, you continue to block out what you learned as a child was unacceptable.
For many women, myself included, anger was unacceptable.
I was scolded or hit for expressing appropriate anger. As a result, for decades I stifled my anger, only to have it seep out in unconscious, destructive patterns, as I tiptoed my way around what I had learned was inappropriate in "expressing myself.
What did you learn was inappropriate? Was it speaking out? Asking questions? Did you learn that you shouldn’t rock the boat but should docilely go along with what the grown-ups were doing just because they said so? Did you learn to cater to others to win approval and validation? Did you find that once you learned that pattern, it was like a vicious cycle? I did. No matter how much I gave and did, I still never felt validated. I still searched for approval.
I was searching for me, but I had long forgotten that bold me who lay dormant beneath the facade of docile behavior. I was in self-preservation mode, and I thought the only way to survive was to be approved, which meant behaving their way, not mine. Did you ever feel you had to forsake your truth in order to win approval?

Know Yourself is a rare book. It's rare because of Barbara Rose's approach. Her love and care, practical exercises that lead to breakthroughs, no-nonsense approach and wise guidance that is doable in actual life has led me to a major turnaround in the self worth department.
Know Yourself covers the core topics and underlying reasons why we don't feel as supremely confident as we would like, then the book takes you on a personal journey to uncover, discover and finally recover all that was buried beneath false self views.
I enjoyed this process and this book so much. There's pure and wise guidance in here that leads to a real transformation. There's a lot of insight, inspiration, relating of Barbra's own process and her guidance takes you by the hand to that place inside where sparks of realizations occur.
Her teleseminars on this book that I've listened in on are incredible. Just like in this book, she shares it all, and empowers YOU in every positive way, so from the heart. I Highly suggest this book for all the good it does. It's a treat, and the best part is that it does what it says.

It's rare to read a book that is life transforming in the most practical sense and feel it make a significant difference in your life. Barbara Rose's words did this for me. She brings hope and the courage to change with her humbleness in how she was able to do it for herself. The change comes as a result of working through the simple process clearly laid out in this book. From chapter to chapter you are guided with a great deal of love to feel self love, where true confidence comes from, and how to achieve this.
I beleive this book can help anyone transform poor self image and low self esteem. It's a book I will always be grateful for, and I believe anyone who goes through this process will feel the same way. Barbara brings a rare gift to us with authenticity. This book will undoubtedly help many people.

In Know Yourself Barbara Rose shares from the heart how we've disowned so many parts of our self and how to bring those parts back so we feel whole again, "the same wholeness we had on the day we were born". She covers abuse, relationships, searching outside ourselves for validation, life purpose and how to know what ours is, overcoming challenges, releasing self judgment, how to glow with self confidence, spirituality, desire and outcomes, and the topics go on.
Her relating from her own life how she turned it all around is what makes this book so great, because you know and feel she's had a lot of pain and low self worth that she was able to turn around, and throughout the whole book she shows exactly how to do it.
Ladies, if you want to feel what this book is all about, this book is excellent! |

I've read several of Barbara Rose's books, and have loved them all! Her style of writing is such that you feel like she's one of your best friends - someone who truly cares about YOU and your happiness. I could actually feel her love & care beam forth from each & every page! What an awesome feeling!
Know Yourself is a wonderful guide for helping women remember just how special they are. Through the many exercises and self-reflecting questions, you are taken on a personal journey to find yourself - your true self - which may have become hidden underneath layers of negative sef-talk, self-defeating beliefs & the need to please others at the expense of yourself.
I believe that one of the main goals of this book is to help guide you, the reader, to a place where you can begin to live life passionately & authentically in the moment - and to remember that the joy is in the process, as opposed to being tied up in an end result (like I'll be happy when I lose 30 lbs.).
The author's willingness to open up, and share many of her own life experiences along the way, helped me to realize that she's not only speaking from "book-learning", but that her knowledge came from living through many difficult situations, and sharing her experiences of what worked and what didn't to help her get on the right life path for her.
Overall, this is an insightful & enjoyable read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to better their life by learning who they really are, and then being authentic to that true self.
