Peter Pan is back, now an immortal youth stranded on Mollusk Island (Never Land) with his group of lost boys in tow. James, Prentiss, Thomas, and Tubby Ted are great admirers of his abilities, however the fact that they can never join in on his fun of tormenting Black Stache is always a point of contention. Suddenly there is a new ship that appears to stir things up, a ship captained by a certain noseless man named Nerezza, an ominous creature of darkness named Lord Ombra, and the former captain of the Never Land, Slank. They have come to find the starstuff that had previously come to the island with Peter, only to learn that it has been returned to London with Lord and Molly Aster.
Peter greatly fears this Ombra, especially since his faithful companion birdwoman, Tinkerbell, is terrified of him. He worries for Molly, a dear friend of his from the previous adventure, and decides to return with the ship in secret so that he might warn Molly of this frightening creature. Things become complicated when he arrives in London. First and foremost he must find Molly's home, a feat that proves quite difficult for the orphaned boy. Also, there is a sudden wave of shadow theft in London, something that leaves a person but a mere shell of their former self. Peter suspects it is connected to Ombra, and vows to reach the Asters before he does, knowing full well that Molly very life is at stake. But can he do it in time, in a town where he has no notion of where she is, and worse is the fact that he cannot use any of his new abilities in order to find her. This continues to be a great new addition to the Peter Pan legend.
Peter and the Shadow Thieves is a great adventure story. Like the prequel, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have created a wonderful explanation to the origin of one of the world's most beloved characters. It is compelling and leaves the reader wanting yet another installment in this new series. The introduction of George Darling was a terrific treat as the story and Peter transform towards the Peter that we know and love as created by J.M. Barrie. In this second prequel to the adventures made familiar by J. M. Barrie and Walt Disney, which builds on the events of Peter and the Starcatchers (2005), two veteran writers for adults do not disappoint. Sustaining the first book's lively pace are short chapters packed with action and well-chosen details-both icky and marvelous. Squalid London streets, aristocratic mansions and even Stonehenge make atmospheric backdrops for bouts with pirates, wolf packs, and a deliciously creepy villain who steals souls from shadows. Readers will relish the chance to further explore the back-story of a favorite childhood tale, and hope for a third installment.

Dave Barry is a humor columnist. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Dave has also written a total of 25 books, although virtually none of them contain useful information. Two of his books were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom "Dave's World," in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Dave. In his spare time, Dave is a candidate for president of the United States. If elected, his highest priority will be to seek the death penalty for whoever is responsible for making Americans install low-flow toilets. Dave lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife, Michelle, a sportswriter. He has a son, Rob, and a daughter, Sophie, neither of whom thinks he's funny.
Ridley Pearson: As a bestselling author he has earned a reputation for writing novels that grip the imagination, emphasize high-tech crime and dazzling forensic detail, and, all too often, imitate life.

In this riveting and adventure-packed follow-up to Peter and the Starcatchers, Peter leaves the relative safety of Mollusk Island-along with his trusted companion Tinker Bell-for the cold, damp streets of London. On a difficult journey across the sea, he and Tink discover the dark and deadly, slithering part-man/part-creature Lord Ombra. It seems that the dreaded Ombra has a variety of mysterious powers, including the ability to make shadows disappear. When Peter reaches London, he sets out to find the indomitable Molly. Together they must combat Ombras terrible forces to both protect the Starcatchers and the treasured starstuff and, most important, to rescue Molly’s mother from the clutches of evil.

After reading Peter and Starcatchers together with my 8-year old son, we eagerly continued with Peter and the Shadow Thieves. Unfortunately, my son & I had to stop reading this book together about 1/2 way through because it was a bit too scary for him (he's a very imaginative child). My son found the Lord Ombra character too scary and did not admit this to me, until he told me one night that he did not want to go to sleep without the lights on. My son & I enjoyed the pirate dialogue and action in both of the books. (I finished the book myself, and then told my son of the ending- easing his fear of Lord Ombra.) I would highly recommend this book for boys who like action and could handle a little bit of scariness. |

A book you should read is Peter and the Shadow Thieves by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. This fantasy is full of action and drama. This book takes place in London. It is about a boy named Peter and a girl named Molly. They have to stop a thing named Lord Ombra from gaining control of a substance called starstuff.(starstuff is can make you do many things such as flying or changing things.) My favorite scene is when the author’s first describes Lord Ombra and how you feel when you’re around him. Here's a quote from the book, the night was warm but slank felt a chill through his back, a chill to his bones. He'd felt it from the moment Lord Ombra descended to the dory. That is just a little part of the descriptive words. This is one of my all time favorite books. I don't think the author could have done a better job describing and put in a better job describing and putting a realistic picture in your head. If you like to read fantasy you need to read Peter and the Shadow Thieves. |

I gave this book a five star because it was an excellent exciting read. With some new characters such as George Darling, who also along with Peter seems to like Molly and Tinkerbell with amazing abilities who was only introduced in the first one, this book is great. It also had some great illustrations. Anyone who reads this book would like it as much as I did. I couldn't put the book down because it was so good! |

In the beginning Peter and the lost boys are on the island and soon a boat comes to the island. Peter can now fly all the time and he doesn't age. These pirates have come with a mysterious thing called lord Ombra that doesn't seem human. When he gets the information he needs about the where about of a powerful substance, starstuff from the Mollusk villagers he sets off from the island towards Molly Aster and her family. Peter had seen this Ombra on the island and how he somehow took control of people by their shadows and he glides instead of walks. When he learns Molly is in danger, he leaves the island by stowing away with Ombra and the Pirates, in order to warn her in London where she lives. Peter now has to find Molly in London before Ombra does. Now with the help of Molly and Tinkerbell, his bird girl companion, they must defeat Ombra so he does not get the Starstuff before the Return where the Starstuff is returned to the Heavens. |
