I don't always love Stephen King. (There's been a few times when he's left me hanging.) But with Bag of Bones all the stars align just right for a riveting read. A fair warning, it does start a little slow but it's necessary to lay the foundation for a terrific Ghost story. Highly Highly recommended.

I found this book to be a hauntingly brilliant novel of love, terror, and distorted reality. As a Stephen King fan, I can say that this is by far my favorite book from him. I like that it included not just frightening episodes, or strange twist and turns in the plots, as all Stephen King books do, but it also had an underlying deep and haunting love story.
It's so much more then I ever expected it to be. I would definitely reccommend this book, because it pulls at your heart strings (even causing me to cry), has a few laughs, and is definitely frightening, especially while reading it in the middle of the night. This is a book you can't put down after you start reading it.

This book was almost a departure for Stephen King, it was almost a love story but with that Stephen King twist, you are hoping and hoping that they will hook up and then, bam, something only Stephen King could come up with and explaine in that detail. I couldn't put the book down, i ended up staying up all night and reading it, however it does start off a little slow, and if you notice at the begging one of our friends from Insomnia shows up. Good read, I would defenitly recommend this book, even to a none king fan.

Stephen King proves he can still scare the socks off you with this one. I bought this one afternoon and was up till twelve midnight reading it. Then I stayed up till two because I was afraid to go to sleep afterwards. But there's much more here than just scares.
All good ghost stories have a mystery at the heart of them, and this one is no different. The revelation of what happened to the turn-of-the-century singing group Sara Tidwell and the Red Tops, woven in with the supernatural manifestations Mike Noonan is experiencing in his present-day cabin of Sara Laughs (named after the aforementioned singer), coupled with King's textured exploration of small-town life, are what give this book substance and make it more than just a superficial slasher fic.
King revisits many of his favorite themes, such as themes of insiders vs. outsiders in community life, the way a community's buried past reaches out to affect its present, and the idea that loving connections between human beings are necessary to stand in the face of evil. Interwoven with subthemes on sexism, racism, power, and social inequality, this is far from a melodramatic, soulless Hollywood-esque production and is instead a book with interesting commentary, richness, and some real heart (as well as being scary as all get out). I wish more authors were capable of writing with this kind of detailed, balanced richness.

Bag of Bones has become my all time favorite King novel. I have read at least 4 times and find something new in it each time. I'm currently reading it for a 5 time, and I still get chills reading it. It isn't as gory as some of his horror books, but the mystery is still intact. I love the genius of this book. It's an amazing love story, with so many twists along the way.
